One of the most important departments in Bioquochem, is the R&D one.  Proof of that are the different lines covered by this department:


  • The mission of our food line, aims to generate and transfer knowledge in order to create innovation improve the competiveness of the food production sector, integrating innocuousness and food safety concepts.

  • Bioquochem works to be an international leader in food research that addresses the fundamental relationships between food and health. In order to achieve this goal,  we aim to maximise the impact of our research and innovation, to supporting growth in the food manufacturing sector.


Our Health line research is focused in oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a normal process in the body. Under normal conditions, the physiologically important intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are maintained at low levels by various enzyme systems participating in the in vivo redox homeostasis.  Oxidative stress leads to many pathophysiological conditions in the body. Some of these include neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, gene mutations and cancers, chronic fatigue syndrome, fragile X syndrome, heart and blood vessel disorders, atherosclerosis, heart failure, heart attack and inflammatory diseases.


The stroke R&D line, is focused in the development of OxcarD.

OxCard is a project that aims to develop a portable device for quick prognosis of cardiovascular
disease (CVD). The quick prognosis will allow the choice of the appropiate medical treatment in the
first hours after the event, reducing the mortality and morbidity rate.

Oxidative stress plays an important role in sport where a huge amount of free radicals are generated.

Bioquochem is developing a sport specific portable device.

  • This device will measure oxidative stress markers related to fatigue in many types of exercise (aerobic, anaerobic…).
  • This device, will therefore be able to know and to optimize the recovery time of athletes, increasing their efficiency, and decreasing injuries produced due to overtraining periods.


The aim of the aging line is to improve our senior´s quality of life. Mainly the quality of life of the chronic ones, and also to reduce their familiar and medical dependence.

This goal is being developed by two linked points:

  • By the development of aging biomarkers, able to predict our ageing and their link with ageing linked diseases.
  • By the introduction of new technological solutions that help us to solve ageing linked problems using an alternative way (different from the existing one).
